Dragonfly Celebrates 10 Years Relaxing the World

21 March 2013
China’s award-winning urban day-spa brand Dragonfly celebrates its first decade “Relaxing the World” with a 10th Anniversary Carnival

Dragonfly Celebrates 10 Years Relaxing the World

10 years ago a tiny shop opened in Shanghai with a single-minded purpose – to make busy urban dwellers relax – and a uniquely popular day-spa brand was born.

Dragonfly Therapeutic Retreat began with a small menu of relaxing massage services delivered in a tasteful, soothing atmosphere. It was an instant hit as it raised the bar for customer service in a city where service was only beginning to matter to its local customers, and where its foreign residents and visitors felt a gap. Dragonfly filled that gap by offering “5 star services - at a 3 star price”.

Its emphasis delivering consistent quality of service, impeccable hygiene and attention to detail quickly gained it a loyal following of clientele and established it as the brand leader in its segment. This enabled Dragonfly to quickly grow from one tiny shop in Puxi, to cross the river into Pudong and then head north to Beijing. Within a few years the company evolved into a chain of shops throughout China and its small menu of massage services expanded into nail spa treatments, waxing services, tanning services and ultimately facial services. Now the company has 17 cozy retreats in 6 cities in China.

Now to celebrate, Dragonfly is proud to invite members, customers and friends to join them on Saturday 23 March 2013 for a celebration of “a life of ease, life of charity and life of comfort.” Its 10th Anniversary Charity Carnival will be held in the chilled-out courtyard of Kerry Parkside Shanghai near Century Park, where visitors may come from 9:00-5:00 pm to enjoy free massage, free manicures and a full range of fun activities for the kids with refreshments for the whole family – all with its compliments as a way to say thank you for 10 years of patronage.

No celebration would be without surprises, so on the same day the company will offer its customers - in addition to relaxing their mind and bodies, a chance to relax their wallets while supporting two of its favourite charities in Shanghai, Heart to Heart Shanghai and Shanghai Sunrise. For each membership card that is purchased that day, customers will receive a Heart Bear with its compliments that will contribute towards a lifesaving heart operation for a needy child. Customers purchasing a 3000 RMB membership card will receive a Heart to Heart “Baby Bear”; a 5000 RMB membership card will receive a full-sized Heart Bear, and a 10000 RMB card will receive 2 full-sized Heart Bears.

Dragonfly is proud to have been an active sponsor of a wide range of charity social activities over the years organized by its friends and customers in the community, including charity balls, school festivals, Rotary club fundraisers, foreign and local NGO activities, etc.. The company has been grateful to work with foreign consulates, chambers of commerce, and expatriate social organizations - to help make their events more special by offering them free gift prizes, discount coupons, and on-site deliver of its über popular massage and beauty “Sparty” services. Dragonfly has been pleased to sponsor Shanghai Sunrise students and to mobilize its own staff to provide service to the community through campaigns such as its annual “Moon Represents My Heart” campaign that gives traditional Chinese mooncakes to lonely elderly residents during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The themes for Dragonfly’s 10th Anniversary Charity Carnival are “Slow down the pace of life”, “Give love from the heart” and “Enjoy the best life has to offer” and these reflect Dragonfly’s sincere belief as a relaxation oriented lifestyle brand that urban dwellers are far too busy and stressed these days and they must pause and take a moment to give themselves a break, to step back a pace and enjoy life, and to take the simple pleasure that comes from helping others.

Dragonfly welcomes all of its friends to come and join the company as it gives thanks to all who have contributed to its success over the past decade, and to express its commitment to continue doing best for them during the decade ahead.

About Heart to Heart

Heart to Heart Shanghai (heart2heartshanghai.net) was established almost 10 years ago by Christine Cullen as a non-profit community outreach organization to give members in the expatriate community of Shanghai a chance to donate their time and money to give support to needy children suffering from congenital heart defects. Heart to Heart originally began as a support group for the Rotary Club of Shanghai’s Gift of Life program, but grew into a separate entity in 2006. Heart to Heart is fully staffed by volunteers. Its clothing, toys, blankets, personal hygiene products and food donation projects also stem from its association with the children, their families and their village neighbours. In October 2005 Heart to Heart Shanghai launched its Heart Bears fund-raising campaign which is going strong ever since.

About Shanghai Sunrise

Shanghai Sunrise (shanghaisunrise.com) is Dragonfly’s oldest community service partner beginning from the Spring of 2003 when we helped them distribute “SARS Survival Kits” to expatriate customers when this disease broke out in Shanghai. Shanghai Sunrise is the first expatriate managed charity program in Shanghai that works closely with Shanghai Charity Foundation to provide educational sponsorships for needy students in grades 10-12, and university scholarships for deserving students already in the Shanghai Sunrise Program. In addition it also offers a Life Skills Program for high school and university students. Since 1995 Shanghai Sunrise has helped more than 1600 students in 18 districts within Shanghai.
